Barack Obama announces grant funding for Modec
Barack Obama, the US president, has awarded Coventry based Modec with a $39m (£23m) grant to roll out their zero emission electric vans to the huge American market.

Modec is the world’s first manufacturer of purpose built zero emission vehicles. Heralded as the future of commercial transport, the British manufacturer was founded in 2004 by a team of automotive engineering experts and its vehicles were launched to the transport industry in March 2007. This US government funding is to be a joint venture between Navistar and Modec and is good news for the Midlands automotive sector.
Modec is at the forefront of zero emission commercial vehicles using the very latest in battery technology and Lean manufacturing techniques. Since production began in 2007, the company has steadily grown and now has over 90 leading automotive team members working together to supply an expanding UK and European network with customers including Tesco and many local governments.
Exel Computer Systems have worked with Modec since 2006 to deliver a single, integrated ERP system, which has lead to a reduction in vehicle lead times within a rapidly growing and evolving business environment. Exel extend congratulations to their customer, Modec upon winning this substantial grant and wish them every success for the future.
Modec are committed to building a sound commercial vehicle to revolutionise the automotive industry, and this will be carried through into the American market.
